The Scary Monster Insect Thailand

During a morning walk in our tropical garden in Chiang Mai, North Thailand, I discovered that scary monster insect sitting on a branch of one of the trees. The insect looked frightful and I called our Thai photographer Nat to try to get a few macro shots of that monster. The scary monster made no move to escape, which made us a bit wary. Nat told me to be careful, it´s a “Malaeng Men”, a stink bug, which sprays an abominably stinking liquid to aggressors. Later on, we figured out, that it was more illusion than reality. The scary monster insect was just an empty hull of a cicada grub.
