Lychee (Litchi chinensis) is the fruit of the 10-20 meter tall,
evergreen Lychee tree.
The Lychee is native to China, where it is cultivated for about 4000 years.
Nowadays Lychees are extensively grown in China, North Thailand, North Vietnam,
North India, but also in South Africa and the USA.
The Lychee needs a cool, but frost-free winter season.
There is a wide range of Lychee cultivars available,
the biggest fruits reach a size of a plum.
Because of their sweetness and their unique floral aroma,
Lychees are very popular as desserts.
