The Thai Eyes Crew got a new photographer, young Thai boy Posantor “Chocolate” Saelie.
Chocolate, so his nickname, isn´t a new face in our team,
he is been working with us more than 2 years already.
After the death of his parents and the suicide of his brother Dam,
our photographer Tee went “out of order” and quitted his job.
Fortunatly we started about 2 month ago to teach Chocolate about photography,
in our crew there is always a lot of work to do
and we decided two photographers are better than one.
But let´s get back in time.
Chocolate was born in a small Lisu hill tribe village,
near Mae Suay in the Chiang Rai Province (Changwat Chiang Rai).
While the young kid was just 4 years old he lost his parents
and had to fight for his life nearly alone.
He had 2 good friends of the same age and also orphans
and they shared their young lives.
As they had no place to sleep,
they slept in the woods and ate what mother nature gave them.
This declares why Chocolate is a passionated fisherman
and has a big knowledge about wild herbs and fruits.
About 3 years ago, we got Lisu hilltribe visitors,
old friends and they brought a young, small and skinny kid with them.
The young and very cute boy introduced himself: My name, Chocolate.
He was wearing a traditional Lisu trouser as You can see on the picture.
It was a long and funny night with our friends
and we consumed the daily production of a small beer brewery.
While our Lisu friends started to go home, Chocolate asked us,
if he could stay here overnight, he didn´t have a place to sleep.
We agreed and let the kid sleep on the sofa in our living room.
We´ve been amazed about the funny and lively character
and about his willingness to help and took him in our hearts very quick.
For sure, we couldn´t throw that young kid on the street,
with all it´s dangers and we decided to take care him further on.
Retrospectively we can say it was a very good investment in our and in his future.
While we asked him, if he would like to learn about photography,
he agreed immediatly. I can do everything, he said.
He surprised us with his patience,
he don´t stop a photo shooting, until a picture fit his high quality standards,
and he surprised us with his creativity.
For all of us it´s a great pleasure to work with him
and he´s respected by all of us, even the elder Thais,
which is quite unusual.
