Chiang Mai get armed for the big water battle on Songkran Festival 2008

Every Year from 13.04. – 15.04 the Thai New Year Songkran Festival takes place all over Thailand.
The Thaipeople go to the temples and washing the Buddha statues with jasmin water.
They sprinkling water to each others head,
followed by wishes for a good new year (Sawasdee pee mai).
This is the traditional way, nowadays the Songkran Festival is the biggest water battle on earth.
Since many years Chiang Mai became the centre of the Songkran water war.
Thanks to the new female mayor of Chiang Mai,
this years Songkran Festival will not get any artificial extension.
Thaipeople and specialy the young Thai kids love the Songkran festival
and start to get armed with waterguns for the big battle.
While the young Thai kids are just thinking about fun (sanuk),
hundreds of workers give Chiang Mai a last clean up for the upcoming festival.
