The village of Mae Salong was founded in 1961
at the top of Doi Mae Salong (Mae Salong mountain)
by Chinese Kuomintang war refugees,
which came from Burma.
Even nowadays most of the inhabitants of Mae Salong
are Chinese immigrants and Mae Salong looks like a Chinese village.
