Please help us Family Tragedy in Thailand
By Thai-Eyes | July 28, 2009
The Thai-Eyes Crew is in deep mourning about a family tragedy in Bangkok, Thailand.
Please help us to prevent a persistence of poverty and another disaster.
The tragedy started with a telephone call at 07.05.2009,
Dam, the brother of the Thai-Eyes photographer Tee (Anuparp Ratanakhon),
informed us about the death of their father Udom (52 years) in a hospital in Bangkok.
Udom was sick for a few month already, he was suffering from liver cirrhosis.
Udom was a broken man, after the separation from his wife Panni.
Because of his grief, he became an alcoholic.
Udom has been cheated out of his savings by his own brother
and the family of his wife Panni forced the divorce.

The two boys Tee, at this time 2 years old and his younger brother Dam, just 1 year old,
lived from now on with several relatives and friends.
Tee, the Thai-Eyes photographer, had to start his career
at the young age of 5 years.
He had to work in a small Thai restaurant, run by a relative.
For even a small mistake he has been beaten up with a bamoo stick.
At the age of 8 years he was running away and carved out a miserable existence
as a street kid, together with his beloved brother Dam.
At the year 1995, I was running a small restaurant in Chiang Mai,
my boys brought a young, dirty and disillusioned boy to the restaurant
and asked for some food for him.
He hadn??t eat for days and was very hungry.
We gave him food, put him under the shower, bought new clothes for him
and invited the kid to stay with us.
This young kid was Tee, at this time 15 years old.
Tee unbended quickly and was beloved from all of us for his helpfulness
and his friendly character.
Years passed by and Tee and me went to Germany
to work for a cargo company at the Munich airport.
In January 2009 we settled back to our beloved city of Chiang Mai.
The death of their father Udom shocked the two boys
and Dam, he paid for the hospital bills and the funeral
was burdened with debts.
Dam lives together with his wife Mui
and they have a 2 year old daughter Mui.

Picture: Dam and his daughter Tui, a picture from better days
Mui is sufferering from blood cancer (leukaemia),
her medical treatment costs an enormous amount of money as well.

In the beginning of July 2009 their mother Panni (47 years)
has been rushed to hospital,
everything looked like a nervous breakdown.
The truth should come out much later.
At the 19.07.2009 the sequence of calamities went on.
Dam called Tee in the afternoon,
Tee came to our office, took a few documents and run away.
He looked totaly shell-shocked.
At about 21:00 hour, I went to our small bar,
our manager Eak told me, Tee has been there for a short while
and told Eak, his mother Panni will die in 27 minutes.
How could he know ???
We??ve been confused.
Tee vanished without a trace.
At about 4:00 in the morning he came back to our house
and reported under tears, what happened.
Panni suffered from a kidney failure
and felt to a coma a few days before, already.
The amount of 50.000 – 60.000 Baht for an emergency operation
couldn??t be brought up, Dam was already in very deep debts.
So the doctor recommended to euthanise the mother.
Dam and Tee had to hurry up to sign the documents
and now Panni is dead.
Tee blamed oneself for the mothers dead,
it was never his wish, that his mother had to be euthanised
like a sick dog, he said.
But what could he do ???
Tee and Dam wasn??t responsive for a few days,
but then the whole horrorstory came to light.
Dam was in debt of about 400.000 Baht now,
the hospital treatment for his father Udom, the funeral costs,
the hospital treatment for his mother Panni and the funeral costs for her.
Poor people without any guarantee, can borrow money from loan sharks,
but the price is very high. In his destitution he had to accept an interest rate of 20 % per month !!!
Yes, this is not a typo, 20 % per month.
In a first crisis meeting with our team we decided to publish the story
in the internet and start a donation campaign.
Please help a young family in extremity !!!
We already did everthing within our power.
The loan shark abandoned the interest rates for the first 2 month.
A first success !
From the Thai-Eyes Crew and our relatives has been donated already 1300.- ???.
The money has been sent to the family and bolstered them.
Dam is in a very bad frame of mind and we fear,
he can not stand the problems.
How will the future of the young girl Tui be !!!
Please help us !!!
Every cent counts !!!
All the donated money in full will be sent to the family as soon as possible,
they will be informed every day .
We, the Thai-Eyes Crew, Di, Dam, Mui and little Tui want to say a heartly thank You,
to everybody in the world, who has a heart for the young family in big trouble
and helps a bit.
Thank You very much !!!
Panni and Udom rest in peace
Breaking news from 28.07.2009 19:30 Thai time:
As we??ve been informed just a minute ago,
Dam attempted suicide and is in intensive care in a hospital in Bangkok now.
Before, the loan shark told him,
that because not enough money has been paid back,
he have to pay interest at the end of July
of 20.000.- Baht.
Dam drank a bottle of toilet cleaner.

Dramatic situation for you all, it’s a very sad consequence of having no system for health insurance for everybody (like we have in rich Europe). Sorry I can only contribute and support with words and thoughts.
I express my deep condolances and wish you both strength and wisdom. Hope Dam will recover soon!
