ang lalandi ng mga nagcocomment dito….i just want to say that love of siam was a pretty good movie…depicting morality and though they love each other….the point of the movie still leads to the conclusion that their relationship as Christians….is not pretty well accepted, not only by the society, but also by the creator….hope the movie changed the perception of homos and bis out there..coz it changed me

?€?Love of Siam?€: On Gay and Universal Love

?€?I can?€?t stay with you as your boyfriend but it doesn?€?t mean that I don?€?t love you?€: this line encapsulates the meaning of this movie. One of the most moving parts is when the two young boys (undergoing identity crisis) feel something special for each other. And when everything goes worse, each of them believes that they have to come up with a best decision about their mutual understanding where no one should gravely be hurt. Confused about a lot of things (especially that he lives alone after his grandma dies), Mew has to lie lo from seeing Tong. The latter is the one who has a family whose bond becomes shaken after losing a sibling (Tong?€?s older sister, Tang). All complications define what the kind of life that each of this two young lovers has. Mew, who in the start, is very passionate about his love for Tong turns out to be lonelier and chooses not to express himself while Tong who is comparatively more masculine and passive about what he feels for Mew turns out to be more confused and tries his best to face his dilemma. All these come about after Tong?€?s mother who acts like that of a beast-of -burden convinces Mew to end everything that is starting to develop between him and his only son, and now the only child. Consequently, Mew has to move on though still adamantly in love with Tong and the latter has to end his dilemma though already more in love now than ever. Everything stays as it were until on the eve of the ultimate confrontation. In a concert during the Christmas Festival where Mew?€?s band performs, Tong shows up and finally signifies his honest affection for the lead singer (his greatest love). In a very solemn and solitary opportunity, the two once again talk to each other face to face. So sentimental and melancholic each of their spirits has become especially when Tong gives Xmas present to his love. The former tells the latter that his music is great and the latter asks back if what he can say after hearing the song. Finally, in a quite casual manner, Tong tells him: ?€?I can?€?t stay as your boyfriend but it does not mean that I don?€?t love you?€. Mew tries to understand and just throws back a sweet smile. He then leaves and goes home straight. There he tries to capture every pinch of idea that he has to understand about his encounter with him. Thankful, he just smiles as tears roll over his young cheeks making out a fragile countenance of a young boy who is deeply in love.

From the most notable line, I must say that love is a game that does not need a definite set of players or pair of players. Everyone is a subject of this mysterious treasure-hunting like game that the more you seek its meaning, the greater propensity there will be that you?€?ll get lost. Why does it end with the young gay lovers not together? Well, isn?€?t it more universally realistic that each gay/lesbian/queer couple has to play the game with more restrictions or rules than the socially suggested form of relationship has to? No matter how sincere and passionate the love that binds Mew and Tong, one of them has to decide and one has to agree for both of them do not love just to find pleasure and happiness. More importantly and meaningfully, they love in order to let each other know how it feels like how to truly love and be loved. Hence, they both have in their instinct that their love is beyond the romantic ideals portrayed in fairy tales and it only dwells in the abyss of their emotion along with the pounding of their human hearts ?€“ hearts which cannot beat on their own but only to follow the every impulse of the mind. (And now we may all weep or sob as we see our own portrait from either Mew or Tong).

Way back in college, people would ask me if I have seen the Love of Siam. I didn’t know what it’s all about and why my friends (both homos and straight) were interested in the movie until I saw the movie just a couple of days ago.

It made the fire inside me flare. While in many ways, each of us may play Tong’s or Mew’s role, the movie depicted a very realistic view of the struggles that men experiencing identity crisis go through.

I love the subtle romance that spurred between Tong & Mew & how it intensified as they grew closer to each other. Above all, I love the part of the movie when Tong & Mew were on the same bed, where Mew was laying on Tong’s a couple of days after they met when they were both grown up.

I just felt really sad that in the end, Tong has to tell Mew that he couldn’t be there for Mew as boyfriend despite the love he feels for Mew. They almost had it, they had the same feelings for each other and they even had what it seemed to me as mutual understanding.

Too bad, this is one of the bitter realities that people like us may encounter…but who cares, I would be happy too if I meet the Tong of my life. :D

Kudos Mario & Witwisit for a very effective portrayal of the roles. I must admit, I’m totally obsessed with Mario right now, I still couldn’t move on. You made me want to visit Thailand.
