At Makha Bucha Buddha Day we met this young Thai boy,
who was selling the so called triple buddhist offerings
for the Wat Chedi Luang (Chedi Luang temple) in Chiang Mai/North Thailand.
The triple offering consists of 1 or 2 candles, 3 incense sticks and one or more flowers.
Flowers are symbolizing the perishability of the body.
Incense sticks are symbolizing morality and have a purifying effect.
Candels are the symbol of the teachings of Buddha (Buddha Dhamma/Dharma).
The number 3 (3 offerings, 3 incense sticks) remembers to the 3 jewels of Buddhism:
Buddha, the teachings of Buddha (Buddha Dhamma/Dharma)
and the community of the buddhist monks (Sangha).
